Perhaps the climb with the most beautiful name of the region, both in Dutch and in French: the Karnemelkbeekstraat / Rue du lait battu. Bilingual, indeed, because walking on the border between Flanders and Wallonia, this climb is the sister climb of the Knokteberg - Rue du Trieu / Rue du Trieu.
Both climb the same hillside and their profile is very similar. And both also lead to the Ronde van Vlaanderenstraat, named after... the Ronde van Vlaanderen. You're indeed close to the final of the Tour of Flanders, with the Kwaremont and Paterberg nearby.
When you turn right at the top of the Karnemelkbeekstraat / Rue du lait battu you see, under your strong pedal strokes, just the winners of the Tour written on the ground. Turn further right onto the N36 (Ronsebaan, the main connecting road between Oudenaarde and Ronse) then you can climb even further to the Hotond (Scherpenberg). A little further on turn left into the Zandstraat and reach the highest point (150 m) of the Flemish Ardennes.
The Karnemelkbeekstraat / Rue du lait battu can be climbed in two ways: straight ahead, via the actual Karnemelkbeekstraat but you can also reach the climb via the Bremstraat. The climb has, just like the Trieu, a long run straight ahead. When you reach the forest, it gets narrower and steeper, although here too you can take a break before you start the last, steepest part. You'll already see the top in front of you.
