Did this as part of a ride in Aug 2008. Great day, sights, and views. Had wonderful gingerbread-type snack from a vendor at the top. You look up to the right and there is the road up to Galibier another 1600 feet higher! The descent toward Alpe d''Huez is quite hairy through tunnels and tight turns...
I cycled over this col in 1951 with 2 other keen cyclists from uk. I was 16 yrs old then and have a photo to remind me of the snow by the roadside. In spite of this it was very hot cycling in shorts and t-shirt! We went on to Turin before returning home.
