Passo Piancancelli, Stia story submitted on 3/5/2014
This was my first real big climb, so I can''t really compare it with anything else. I loved it though. And the feeling of reaching the top after 72 km of constant uphills and downhills....fantastic! This is an extension of Passa della Calla, and there are opportunities for cycling down from Piancancelli to San Godenzo via Castagno d''Andrea (although the upper part there is gravel). From the top, you should do the 30 min hike to Monte Falco, which is the highest mountain in the San Benedetto Alps, thus a good view. Although the trees block a bit of the view, especially towards south. The climb itself takes you through the forest with a fairly steady climb of 5-6%. There is a small restaurant somewhere above the top of Passo della Calla. You can expect to have the road pretty much for yourself, the asphalt is fair enough, the forest surroundings are nice :) Recommended. Wish I had pictures, but my phone was broken when I arrived at Passo della Calla...
