Information on Marche

The "Green Heart" of Italy
In this so-called "green heart" you will find colourful, diverse scenery: extensive flowing green areas and, just as in Tuscany, a countryside filled with cypresses, vin yards and olive trees. This intermingled with interesting towns and picturesqe villages, where time seems to have stood still.
In this region too you will find numerous art treasures from the past. Visit for instance Orvieto, Assisi or Perufia, or somewhere like Gubbio, Todi, Spello or Montefalco, where you can still feel the history.
You will also find the high, rugged mountain regions of the Apennines in the east with extensive forests. In particular "Piano Grande", a flowering region enclosed by mountains, or the Lago Trasimeno surrounded by sandy beaches.
In a region with hills, mountains, lakes and rivers it's of course not hard to find and activity to suit you. From walking, fishing and horse riding to kayaking, skiing or hang-gliding. But Umbria is especially a place for unwinding!
