I climbed this the day before the 2006 Tour (Floyd Landis cracking) and whilst very hot found it to be a nice steady climb with some great views. Early slopes in particular are undemanding. The town at the top is a real disappointment and was something of a building site - best to descend back into St Jean De Maurenne for a well deserved coffee after.
