Story by Roland Schuyer from Dwingeloo, The Netherlands, submitted on 08/10/2013
I agree with Ruben from Spain; this is a very heavy climb. In August 2013 I''ve climbed this one. The first 4 km from Oberstdorf to Seealpe are steep, but cyclable with gradients up to 25%. Seealpe feels like a flat road with gradients between 3 and 7% for about 1 km. From there it''s not longer a cycling trip but a survival tour. After Seealpe the first 1,3 km have an average gradient of 23,6%. In the last 2 kilometers are hell on earth; the steepest slope was (according to the garmin) 36,7%. Uncyclable to me. The surface of the road for the last 4 km constisted of gravel.

The mix of rain and mud, and steep gradients made it a slippery business. But that''s adding extra difficulty, during dry periods the steep slopes are the same.

Hello, Let me introduce myself. I have just discovered this page and i have founded it really interesting. The Nebelhorn is by far the hardest mountain i have ever climbed, and I have climbed the Rionda, Scanupia, Oscheniksee, Koralpen, Fuori....... The 13th position in the ranking doesnt really help, because if you go there, you are going to find the steepts road youve ever seen. I will coment other climbs soon. See you
