On my first trip to powder mountain road in 1974 my brother hit a patch of gravel and rolled his car a 1968 mustang. We all escaped without injury so I was able to climb this road on my bike 40 years later. I rode from my fathers house in Eden to catch the Finish of the tour of Utah stage 4. I love to climb but at 5''9" and 200lbs or 1.75 Meters and 90 kilograms . I am hauling a lot of fat up the hill. I wasn''t sure if I could make it before the race came through but I had a 1 and a half hour head start and a tailwind. The first mile is not that bad but then it gets steep. By mile 3 my legs were tiring . I got off twice and walked to stretch my legs between mile 3-5. At times it was all I could do to keep my 34 chainring and 32 tooth cassette moving fast enough so i did not topple over. When I passed the Red Kite I could see the crowd and was greeted with cheers but i was not moving fast enough to give a proper victory salute. My Strava data shows a time of 1:25:15 Wilco Kelderman came in at 37:07. Tom Danielson beat him by 2:07 so the Record must be 35 minutes. The descent was silky smooth and the pros came flying by me on the way back to the buses. Tough road no switchbacks or flat sections to recover.
