This is a wonderful climb, very similar to Col du Tormalet in difficulty I belive. As many Norwegian climbs, it starts at sealevel, in the center of the small town of Aurland and winds its way through farmland with grassy fields and birchwoods. Most of the way you have stunning views of the fjord below and the mountains around. Just below the treeline there is a spectacular viewpoint where you look straight down on Aurland and the start of the climb. When you pass the treeline the landscape opens up and you see the last kilometers of long zig-zags in the distance. In May and early June the snowbanks at the top can be five meters or more!
