Mount Fuji (Fuji-san) is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776 m (12,388 ft). Along with Mount Tate and Mount Haku, it is one of Japans "Three Holy Mountains".

There are 3 paved roads going up Mt. Fuji to station 5. This is the shortest one and the least used. The upside is that there is not that much traffic, especially very few buses. Downside is that the is a portion in the middle of the ride that is very steep, even with a mountain bike and strong legs very hard to get through without having to get off the bike. Also, this ride only goes up to around 2000 Meters, the other two go up to 2300-2400 level. The Subaru Line ride is a more balanced ride, longer (25km) and going higher (2300m). Costs 200 Yen for two wheelers (that includes bicyles..). There is quite a lot of traffic, so would go on weekdays or early on weekends if possible. Especially the buses that haul the mainly Chinese tourists up there are a nuisance leaving you in a cloud of diesel exhaust.

Don''t underestimate the difference in temperature up there, bring gloves for the downhill portion.
