The Muur used to be the decision maker of the Ronde van Vlaanderen but was skipped since the 2012 edition due to a major route make-over. The Muur (Wall) was and is a monumental Flemish climb. With it's cobblestones and grades up to 20% it is also one of the harder climbs in Flanders. The climb is situated in Geraardsbergen and starts from the edges of the Dender river. It's position to the east of the Flemish Ardennes makes it a bit isolated from those other big Flemish Ardennes climbs like Paterberg, Koppenberg and Kwaremont, which are situated near Oudenaarde and the Schelde river.
