My wife and I rode this from the Canazei side. We started at 5:30 am as the day before our descent of the Sella was ruined by a constant flow of slow cars. Starting early was different. The only cars were a bread truck and fruit truck making their daily deliveries. The ascent of the 28 switchbacks takes about an hour but the descent down makes it all worthwhile. The roads are smooth and the turns banked. My best descent ever made possible by no traffic!

The Pordoi from Canazei is a relatively easy climb, 12 kms and little more than 6% average. It starts easy with also some flatter parts. After about 6 kms the split comes where one side heads to the Sella and the other way goes up the Pordoi. The climb never gets really hard and on 39x26 i could ride up the mountain. It is a nice start when doing the Sella Ronda, which has 4 climbs in total and 55 kms in total. The first time i achieved the best time in 51:06.

I recently rode the Maratona event in Italy which uses the Passo Pordio from the shorter Arabba side. It is a beautiful 9.2km 6.9% climb with the switch backs all numbered from the bottom. Lovely!!
