2 stars because it's reasonably easy.5 stars though for scenic opulance and for a climb which you can enjoy with your head up.Much more like a Alp climb rather than the slogathon Brit climbs.You can get a nice pace going up and after the cattle grid it's pretty memorable scenery up and over the moors to Bala.Agree with the wind comment though.It can get cross winds which are pretty rough going

My personal climb rating:

Possibly the most scenic climb in the whole UK. From halfway, the view down into the valley and the view of the road winding up the hillside is superb. Not steep by Welsh standards, in fact, on a good day, a strong rider would probably use the big ring for a fair proportion of it, but 3 to 4 miles of constant climb, with no let up in the gradient to ease the legs. Combine this with very little traffic and you have a really nice climb. Just a couple of words of advice, the condition of the left side of the road on the descent down to Bala is poor, forcing the rider to ride near the centre line to avoid the rough surface. Also the climb can often suffer strong head or cross winds.

My personal climb rating:

A good steady climb, after a fairly sharp start at 11% from Llangynog it levels off for a bit before steepening again to 7- 8% as the road cuts along the hillside with great views down to the valley below. On a sunny day this is a great route but beware it when poor weather! The top is very exposed and with a headwind will be a hard slog across the moors before the fabulous descent down towards Bala. A good UK training ride for a continental style climb.
