Stories, information and comments from Midi de Bigorre climbers
Story by Craig Fries from Nevada City, United States, submitted on 13/09/2010
Well, I beg to differ. I climbed the Midi Bigorre from Luz St Saveur on Sept 12, 2010 on my Pinarello Prince ROAD bike with Zipp wheels! And Yes, I cleaned all of it up and down, until the final KM mentioned, and carried the bike up the rest of the way - which may have been the hardest part! The ride back down was spectacular - no punctures - and as I was up at top eating, the clouds came in at about the 2300Meter elevation so I descended into the blinding fog - absolutley amazing and the penultimate adventure on a 14 day trip thru Alps, Ventoux and Pyrenees that included Madeleine, Galibier, Alpe dHuez, Glandon, Croix de Fer, Ventoux, Luz Ardiden, Port de Boucharo, Cirque de Troumouse, Hautacam, Soulor and Aubisque amon other smaller cols...and the Midi de Bigorre was the most memorable by far! To get to eat at top, you must beg the guards and say you NEED water, otherwise you are not granted access to viewing platform and restaurant unless you pay the 20 euro to ride Tram from La Mongie - youll thank me for this tip :-)
