Very long climb from Guillestre, beautiful start climbing slowly through a gorge before turning off to Italy rather than going over Col Dizoard. Travels up steadily through some pretty villages before ramping up as you leave civilisation. The day we did it we saw plenty of wildlife including marmottes scurrying back into their burrows. Took us over 3 hours to reach the top so be prepared for a long day in the saddle, however the views from the top are stunning and how often can you say you cycled from France to Italy and back! Went back to Briancon over the Col Dizoard and that finished me! Anyone who does this climb will not be disappointed and deserves the chapeau.
