The Col des Planches (which is in the Pre Alps not the Jura) starts extremely steeply from Martigny and climbs up a ramp and a spectacular concrete balcony to Chemin- Dessous where there is a restaurant with a birds eye view down on Martigny. From there it climbs steadily up past chalets and through beautiful forests to the Col des Planches at 1411m. From the top you can continue up on a dirt road via Col du Tronc to the Col de Lein or take the fast descent past Vens down towards Sembrancher.
