One of the big three in the tour, together with the Aubisque and the Galibier.
On the west side (Luz) the Tourmalet is a very regular climb with an average grade of almost 8%.
The climb begins immediately after you leave Luz-Saint-Sauveur.
In the forest the percentage remains hovered around 8%.
After 4 km, there is a small stretch where you can get some breath,
but further to Barèges, it goes up steadily with even a piece of 12% just before Barèges.
After Barèges, you leave the forest and drive in between the meadows.
After a last easier part, the road goes again towards 9%.
The best is however retained for the final kilometer with an average of 10.5% and pieces till 13%.
Note that the Col du Tourmalet is closed from the beginning of November to the beginning of May.
