On my 3 rd day of training through the alps (Geneve - Bormio)in August 2012 this was my last climb of the day. I started in Chamonix-Col du Grand Saint Bernard to Breuil (174km and 5300vertical meter). The climb from Chatillon goes up to maximal 8% in the first 6km. After that the road is not steap for a while. After this, although the average % is not very steap, you get several times up to 10% for short distances. There was not too much traffic as I started at 7:30 pm, but many cars goes up to 100km/u. Take lights with you for the short tunnels!! In the village of Breuil you still can get higher up to the start of the ski slopes. This roads go up during 1 or 2 km at 12% on average. I would do this climb again but I believe starting from Champagne is more quiet and from there you get more vertical meters to climb.
