This is the nicest side of the Ballon dAlsace. First you leave Sewen and its picturesque lake, on a flat road. Then it becomes really difficult. The lac dAlfeld and the forest are beautiful. The asphalt is good. There is few traffic. This is one of the roads I prefer.

Did the Ballon dAlsace in August 2008 as part of a 4 days stay in the Vosges. Before hitting the Ballon we (a group of 14 riders) hit already the Hundsrück. We took the side starting in Sewen (at the fountain) which according to some is the toughest side. The first part is ok, the final part too but the middle part is tough with long straight strokes. But the top and the views out there do well compensate for all the efforts.
