Did 50kms the day before then tried Whiteface after being told it was only 4 miles to the summit. Shocked to hear at the toll gate that I had more 5 miles to. Did a few more miles but then headed back down. Tried again the next day after just the short warm-up from Lake Placid. Made it to the top with inspiration from family and some hasty black flies that would eat you alive if you slowed too much (100 bites suggested that I needed to lift my pace :)) Great food and views at the top but had to take the very cool elevator to the summit atop the rocky mountain path as I wanted to save my cleats. Definitely one of the best climbs I have done. Got the patch for Whiteface at High Peaks cyclery in Lake Placid. Great service, great sales and selection. Back in Australia now and looking forward to another trip to the Adirondacks.
