Transfagarasan (south) - Lac Vidraru (north side)

Road quality is good. The exact start of the climb is a few kilometers to the north of Lake Vidraru, at the intersection of road 7C and a side-road from the other side of the lake. This climb is also known as the climb to Lake Balea.

The Transfagarasan (south) is situated in Arges and belongs to the Muntii Fagaras . Starting from Lac Vidraru (north side), the Transfagarasan (south) ascent is 25 km long. Over this distance, you climb 1191 heightmeters. The average percentage thus is 4.7 %.

The most wonderful climb from Romania. It is a must to climb from the other side also (north side, from Cartisoara). I used to climb the south side 34*24.

I did this too, but started way down and far, in the last village before the vidraru dam, Capataneni. Its 65km to Balea from there and you get to climb to the dam, also pretty steep and long, then you get a valonated 20+ km with short climbs (but alot), always with a head wind brought by the small river you ride next to, trough the narrow valley. All these will get to you and then youll still have the toughest part ahead of you. My advice is to always be prepared with rain/cold gear, there can be 20 degrees Celsius difference, and you wouldnt want to descend all wet at 60+. And food!! :)

A very very nice climb . From the altitude 1200 the climb very beautiful with wonderful scenery . I used 39*26 to climb it.
