Story by Robert Merkel from Melbourne, Australia, submitted on 03/04/2009
This climb is more difficult than its rather gentle stats would suggest, as the flat bits at the top reduce the average considerably. Its a pretty straight climb through the eucalypts and holiday houses up the mountain, except for one big hairpin about a third of the way up. This climb starts in Monbulk and ends in Olinda, so there are full facilities available at both ends. The end of this climb is at Olinda, which is not quite at the summit of Mount Dandenong. You turn right at the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road, and left at Ridge Road, to reach the actual summit lookout a couple of kilometres further on. There are several other climbs up the Dandenong Ranges, including the easier ""1 in 20"" starting from the Basin, on the western side of the range, and the harder ""Devils Elbow"" starting from Upper Ferntree Gully.
