I usually cycle from near the bridge of Gairn up to Gairnshiel Lodge, then up this hill before decending into Crathie and then going back to my starting point.
I did this route today and almost stopped climbing this hill. It is usually tough but today there was also a strong headwind and it was almost to much for me. I even had to cycle on much of the decent atleast untill the trees. On the positive side, i got a lot of assistance on my way back towards Ballater.
The hill does have quite a few flatish sections and without the wind these give you a decent rest. On the other hand their are quite a few brief but very steep sections. Overall it''s not a long hill but it usually gets my heartrate going >170bpm
