A classic on the Giro. Very nice climb. If you do it in the morning you will have plenty of shade because is on the western side of the mountain and has lots of woods. Look out for the nice views on beautiful Rieti. Kilometer 4 to 7 seemed the hardest. At Campoforogna make sure you turn left (then going downhill) direction Leonessa to reach the highest point of the road.

A rider for this mountain has to have a long lasting stamina for climbing. I told myself to use the switch backs as refueling stations because theyre the flatest parts. The first 11 or 12 kilometers are the hardest, but dont underestimate the 2nd half because once you get up to a high altitude, its a lot harder to breathe. Once you reach the first little village up there, you have it made because there is only a little bit of climbing to do but is not too steep at all compared to the rest. Also make sure you dont stop at the 2nd little village you see. There is a round-about youll come up to. Take a sharp right and keep going up until youve reached a satlite tower. Thats where the official finish is.
