The profile described here attacks the mountain from the mountrath side, which is longer and more winding than approaching from the clonaslee side. From the clonaslee side, there is approximately 5/6 miles of climbing, starting immediately from the community centre in the village. The climb is steady and with the gradient never going beyond 7%. The summit is locally known as the cut, as the road literally cuts an opening through the blanket bog surface at the top of the mountain. A harder route to transverse the mountain is from the kinnity side. This route crosses the wolf trapthat will delve you into a world of pain for short periods
