Serra da Lousa - Castanheira de Pera

I have done this ascent several times, especially the one from Castanheira de Pera side. The height of the mountain is incorrect, as it is 1200 meters. Also Castanheira de Pera is situated at an altitude of 450 meters so you only climb 750 meters. The initial part of the ascent is relatively easy (3.5% to 4.5%) until the last 3 km near the summit (Trevim) that has an average gradient of about 8% to 10%. The ascent from the Lousa side is a bit more difficult and longer as Lousa sits at about 170 meters above sea level. The initial part of the ascent has an average gradient of 4% to 5% and the last kms are the same as the ascent from the Castanheira de Pera side. The ascent from the Lousa side is much more beautiful with magnificent landscapes and deep ravines. The road is very calm with almost no traffic. There are some interesting monuments and viewpoints along the way so take the time to stop and enjoy the nature. Near the top (before the most steep part) there are several windmills near the road and in the top there is a telecommunications complex that looks like is abandoned but is still working. On clear days and with a powerful zoom camera you can see/photograph the Torre in Serra da Estrela which is about 55km away!
