Puerto de Los Leones - Guadarrama

We climbed the los leones from Guadarrama begin of june 2001. It is the national road Madrid-LaCoruna. Despite the fact that the new motorway runs in parallel, there is quite a lot of traffic. Fortunately, the road is very wide. It is moderately steep, with some steeper sections(up to 12 %, as signalled along the road). A huge, ugly monument has been built on the top during the Franco-regime. The long, straight, gently descending sections on a perfect road towards San Rafael allow confidently a constant speed of about 60 km/h.
