Stories, information and comments from Pragel Pass climbers :

Story by Anthony Mowers from Walchwil, Switzerland, submitted on 4/12/2007
I have ridden most of the other passes nearby this pass using my roadbike. This one I did using my mountain bike; it is nasty steep for some long stretches and I have my doubts I could grunt my way up it using my road bike. The ride takes you up through a relatively narrow mountain valley with no villages, lots of woods, and a few farms that sell cheeses. Unlike the nearby Klausen or Susten passes it does not have the same amount of wide-open views back down the valley. But what I found special about this climb is how rural the road seems. There were parts of it that reminded me of some wilderness areas of Canada. In fact about 2/3rds of the way up is a wilderness park. Plus a large part of the road is closed to traffic on Sundays. The decent down the otherside takes you past a large mountiain lake, which is surrounded by some awesome cliffs. The road down from the lake to the town of Glarus is relatively steep, and goes through some nice wooded sections. It is a beautiful road and has some awesome very nice quiet countryside. I have a map and more discussion of it on my blog at http://amowers.blogspot.com .
