I rode up here in August 2010 on a carbon specialised i hired from Paolo Pezzo shop in Bardolino. I have cycled and raced for 37 years and this is the toughest climb i have ever been up. Its an out of saddle effort for 45 -55 minutes. I had one stop for a drink as it was nigh onimpossible to drink and ride . I saw the 3rd stage of giro di trentino in 2012 on tv go up it and many riders including Taylor Phinney lost 20 mins in 7kms!. To quote steep hil the Punta Veleno finishing climb is 8.5 km climb long with an average gradient of 15%, peaking out at 20%. Alessandro Bertolini said “It is an incredibly hard climb ... not the Zoncolan nor Plan de Corones can live up to it. Even though we are so close to Lake Garda, it’s going to be a big surprise for many”.

I tried to conquer this baby on my last holiday in italy and ..its INSANE! Or Im insane to try to do this with race bike and only with a 38. With mountainbike it would be less insane I think. I could ride half of the climb, the rest was by foot because its soo steep and no time to relax, big advantage is that you are in such a quit region and that cows run in the middle of the street, a big difference with all the cars down at the lake.
