Hard climb, in the summer you need to start before dawn to climb in cooler air. Mesured distance from Masplalomas to the top is 48.5km. The ascension starts immediately when leaving Maspalomas up to the top, "Mirador del pico de los pozos de las Nieves" at an altitude of 1956 meters (6415ft). What makes it harder than expected is that there are two short but steep downhills on the way, making the total climb a good 2610 meters (8560ft+) plus climb ! Watch out on the way back you have to climb those two downhills with some parts at 18.5%, short ones, but at the time you get there you already have about 85km in the legs. Enjoy !!

It''s a nice steady climb for the most part up to Ayacata. Beyond here it steepens significantly but still not a severe climb. The top is a long time coming and pacing is everything. The scenery is stunning especially the top half. Plenty of opportunity for refuelling and lovely tarmac.
