I did the climb from Cartisoara on 28 July 2012.

It is an amazing road and the last 8 km look like the Passo dello Stelvio in Italy.

Many curves and a nice view downwards.

It is a very nice mountain road. I climbed the Transfagarasan(which is from Cartisoara to Corbeni) for the first time in June 2008. It is very nice and if you are lucky enough to catch a good weather day it will be wonderful! I climbed it with a 39*26 and 39*23 but if you are a little bit lazier you should get a compact or 39*29. Cheers

I climbed there in August 2007 and it was great. The route compares to romanian standards is in a good condition and it is not overcrowded. We started from Cartisoara at 10 a.m. and we reached the pass at 4 p.m. Weather in Cartisoara was very nice (+27 C) and in Pasul Balea it was raining and rather cold (+5 C).
