The Nufenenpass actually starts from the Briger Berg, but Ried, at 895 meters altitude is the last village. A little further you have a nice view of the Rhone valley and the surrounding mountain tops Eggishorn and Sparrhorn. From Schallberg-Schutzhaus, where the refuge of Napoleon II is, at the far end, the vast basin shows up completely front of you. The slopes run up against the basin and you enjoy stunning views of the surrounding Bietschorn, Nesthorn and Aletschhorn. Through a number of galleries and tunnels, you finally reach the top where a little further you can see the hospital, built by Napoleon.
