Hi. I did that climb two times in September 2013, from San Pedro to cross for Bolivian frontier, Thuesday and Friday of the same week. First time I did 4h. 18 min. and needed two stops. Second time I did 3h 58'' with lighter clothes, and good climatization, but I almost frozen!! Fantastic, but nobody can give you water or food

What is there to say? The climb STARTS higher then the TOURMALET summits and goes higher for over two thousand meters in 40 km! It is bloody hard. Having said that, just before I summitted with a friend of mine, a man and a women cycled the other way, wearing one piece thermal quilted outfits with full paniers on heavy mountain bikes with all their luggage !!!!! Made me feel like a amateur. The climb is great, the views amazing and the Alpacas very friendly, if you''re in Chile it must be done !
