Stories, information and comments from Oulles climbers
Story by Stuart Hepburn from Leamington Spa, United Kingdom, submitted on 21/02/2014
I was parked up and stopping on the Col d''Ornon whilst watching the third week of the Tour in July 2013, we passed this most days on our way to Alpe d''Huez and other local beauties! I kept saying to myself ''that looks interesting, must have a go at that'' I''m glad I did!

The road is mini switchbacks all the way up and is near perfectly shelved toward the top. From memory the surface is generally good, but littered with stones that have fallen from the cliff face. As the above profile suggests it does get steeper the further you go, and whilst there is the odd sign showing your progress up, I couldn''t find the summit sign?

The views from the top are worth the ride, picture postcard views back to the Col d''Ornon.

Take a full water bottle and some snacks with you as there is nothing at the top other than a few houses, I think the only way back down is the way you came up! Its not a ''let go'' decent either as the road switches back regularly.

If in the area of Alpe d''Huez do this…. Its a bit of a hidden gem
