Summer weekends the road can be busy; otherwise, you are alone most of the way up. The road condition makes it good for descending as there are virtually no imperfections in the surface. The climb is relentless, though, and there is no drop in gradient until you are near the top. Views are spectacular, so enjoy it. If you are leaving from Eastsound, there are long hills to climb before you get to the base. In summer, stop and take a dip in mountain lake or cascade lake, where there is a beach.
