Description

Monte Carpegna aka Monte Chippo starts at a right turn in the village and you immediatly hit a sign for 20 % and this more or less defines the climb, which we thought was about 9kms. At times it was difficult to keep the front wheel on the ground, at least most of the ride is through trees, so that you are in the shade. About 2/3 rds up we came to a gate, but you can dismount and walk around this. The road surface was excellent.

The Monte Carpegna is situated in Marche and belongs to the Apennines . Starting from Carpegna, via Mazzini, the Monte Carpegna ascent is 6.8 km long. Over this distance, you climb 608 heightmeters. The average percentage thus is 8.9 %.

Monte Carpegna aka Monte Chippo I was lucky enough to climb this hill in September with Walter and Gillian from switzerland. We were on holiday at the Hotel Dory, Riccione and decided to do a private ride. The climb starts at a right turn in the village and you immediatly hit a sign for 20 % and this more or less defines the climb, which we thought was about 9kms. At times it was difficult to keep the front wheel on the ground, at least most of the ride is through trees, so that you are in the shade. About 2/3 rds up we came to a gate, but you can dismount and walk around this. The road surface was excellent, the Giro having passed this way a short time before. The are many references to Pantani on the way up and a huge steel sign at the top, depicting Pantani climbing. The descent was fast, but quite safe, not to technical and no nasty sheer drops. This mountain in no way compares to the big climbs, such as the Galibier, but is steep enough for an old fella like myself and we all enjoyed it very much
