Description

The Monte Amiata is a very nice climb with the steepest slopes on the bottom. It gets easier as you get higher. The main challenge, for me in July at least, was the combination of the climb and the heat. It is very hot at the lower altitudes and gets nicer as you get higher. The steepest part is also the hottest part so it gets a bit disconcerting in the middle.

The Monte Amiata is situated in Tuscany and belongs to the Apennines . Starting from Castel del Piano, the Monte Amiata ascent is 14 km long. Over this distance, you climb 949 heightmeters. The average percentage thus is 6.8 %.

I rode Monte Amiata from Castel Del Piano on July 8, 2008. It is a very nice climb with the steepest slopes on the bottom. It gets easier as you get higher. The main challenge, for me in July at least, was the combination of the climb and the heat. It is very hot at the lower altitudes and gets nicer as you get higher. The steepest part is also the hottest part so it gets a bit disconcerting in the middle.
