My name is Carl. I was at Aviano, and Polcenigo 1983 - 1986, and rode a bicycle up to Mezzomonte. Can you tell me please, if it had a stone wall at the entrance to the village with a plaque, explaining that it was the Widows Village (because of the Germans 1943-1945). Thank You Very Much. I remember this climb as the finish to the 1993 UDACE Regional championships. It was a memorable race only for the fact that I almost caught the leader inside the final kilometer only to finish second. I forgot how steep it was till I came across this page. Since I was an american that almost won their regionals, rules were placed the following year to prevent non italians from competing.
