The road begins in the vineyards of the Chablais region, then climbs up to the valley of Lake Hongrin. Beyond the top of the pass, the road is closed Monday to Friday and only passable on Saturday and Sunday because of military training, except during all of July and the first half of August, when it is open all the time. Furthermore, due to the narrow road, and an even narrower tunnel, the road is restricted to one-way traffic between kms 12 and 13; traffic going up may only enter this zone between :00 and :15 past each hour, traffic going down may only enter this zone between :30 and :45 past each hour. From the top you can connect to Col des Mosses or take another tiny road down to Montbovon, part of which is completely closed to motorized vehicles.
