I think this is a superb way to spend a coupe of hours - did it at dawn before driving home and saw only two cars in the whole trip up and down. Superb route!!

Sep 2, 2009. Long stretches of easy spinning, with two hard sections that arent too long. After Christophe en Oisans, it is nearly flat although the road gets VERY narrow with steep dropoffs. The views are absolutely stunning. Your legs will still feel the bite in the steep sections, so if you are looking for an easy recovery ride, this probsbly isnt it. The road is fast and smooth, and after the switchbacks past Christophe on the return, some long stretches of high-speed descending on nice roads. A bit of traffic at times, especially when compared to some of the other roads in the area. Le Berarde is the entrance to the National Park, and the starting point for a lot of hikers. Overall an enjoyable and pretty ride with good road surfaces.

This is an absolute corker, the only downside being that it is a dead end. However, if you treat the first and last 5km or so as warm up/cool down then you are left with a truly stunning climb. It has it all, 10% gradients, spectacular scenery, even an opportunity to stop on the way back down at St Cristophe to catch some culture and a relaxed lunch. I enjoyed the climb so much that I opted out of our spin over Galibier the next day to take in this climb all over again it was so good !
