Stories, information and comments from Holme Moss climbers

Rode up Holme Moss on my mountain bike with some friends on Sunday (12th April). All the way up there was an estimated 60 (yes sixty) mph headwind. 1st gear, hunkered down to try to minimize wind resistance two of us got to within 300m of the summit where it bends to the right. As soon as the headwind turned to a cross wind we were both literally blown off our bikes! We picked ourselves up and pushed the rest of the way which took around 15 minutes for the remaining 300m. During a well deserved rest in the car park at the summit I was speaking to a guy who rides Holme Moss regularly, who said he had never ridden in conditions like it. While we were there we watched as everyone behind us was blown off their bikes at the exact same place as us. Great fun but REALLY hard work.
My personal climb rating:

Regular climb as i only live 10k away. Steepish at the bottom and again near the top. Good drag, i am out of the saddle on a 39/25 on the steeper bits. Good for reps on, especially by going over the top to climb up from Holme village.
