I did the climb on a Cannondale Hybrid several years ago. It was at the end of a 60 mile ride, so it was it bit more taxing. The views are fantastic and the ride down worth the climb!

Cycled Healy Pass on a recumbent last September (2011). Pretty tough on this sort of machine (you don't get the chance to stand on the pedals!). Coupled with the remnants of Hurricane Katia giving us grief for the ride (winds up to 83mph)this made it even tougher. Glad to have made it though. Stall speed (for me) on a recumbent is 3.7mph (below that I will fall over!). My son found it easier on a mountain bike (but he is 36 years younger!). Schlumpf mountain drive gave me the range of gears for climbing (and going fast downhill). Expensive, but worth it! Now to try Ditchling Beacon (only 2.5Km and only half the vertical rise, but some parts of it are fairly steep apparently). Anyone made a comparison of these two climbs?
