Stories, information and comments from Hartside Cross climbers
Story by Michael Huggins from Ramsbottom, United Kingdom, submitted on 21/06/2010
Did this with the wife on a tandem recently to introduce her to the kind of steady climbs she will get on holiday in Europe this summer. A cold, northerly breeze added a little difficulty, but we kept a nice high cadence and passed lots of mountain bikers, to her great satisfaction. Not a hard climb, but a good one. Late on a Saturday morning, the traffic was moderate and well-behaved, although the cafe at the top is a favourite of motorcyclists, who make a lot of noise as they pass. Road surface all right, but not smooth. Great views of the Lake District, the Solway and Galloway from the top.
