Description:

The Grand Ballon is the highest mountain in the Vosges. From the top, you can see the Petit Ballon, Ballon d'Alsace and the Storkekopf. Looking east, across the Rhine valley, you can see the Feldberg in the Black Forest. This mountain is served by an auto route (the Route des Cretes) which runs from the Hohneck south toward the town of Mulhouse.

The Grand Ballon is situated in High Rhine region. Starting from Willer sur Thur, the Grand Ballon is 16 km long. Over this distance, you climb 974 heightmeters. The average percentage is thus 6.1 %. Look for other sides to climb the Grand Ballon .

Last Friday (23 june 2006) we rode in France and after 120 KM our last climb was the Grand Ballon. It was beautiful weather, but after a lot of climbs it was very hard. The first 9 KM arent steep, but the bottom of the way isnt good. The second part has better asfalt, but is steep. It was heavy, but we its a very very nice climb! Greetz, Arjan
