El León - Malaga

I did this climb in Sept 07. Its an excellent and challenging ride, the gradient isnt massively steep but its unrelenting. If you find yourself in Malaga its well worth a go. Its not an easy place to find the start of as it starts in the confusing suburbs of Malaga. The A-7000 road has just been resurfaced with a beautifully smooth surface, a pleasure to ride on. The views back down to Malaga are spectacular and the road is virtually traffic free (3 cars passed me in 2 hours). You climb through the Malaga Mountains national park, and its a fabulously peaceful escape from the madness of central Malaga. The roll down from El Leon back to Malaga is one of the best with that road surface. (As a side note I unfortunately didnt have use of my Trek 5200 but did this climb on a 90Euro mountain bike that weighed 21kg. very challenging up and down!)
