Story by Sean Murphy from Sheffield, United Kingdom, submitted on 08/06/2013
Had a go today with 35 miles in my legs having climbed up out of Bradwell to Tideswell and from cressbrook to Monsal Head. As the other guys said, the steepest part is the beginning. I didn''t know this and began to think I had bitten off more than I could chew! Coming up out of the village, I looked up towards the dramatic Rocky outcrop of Curber Edge, saw a Car going over the top, and my horrors of Winnats Pass returned! Fortunately the road hairpins left around a bend so it wasn''t as steep as I thought it was going to be! A tougher climb than frogget, but much more interesting views. Felt really proud again to get over the top!

Steepest section is at the start and continues up to the village. There follows an easier section as the route winds it''s way to Curbar edge, quite dramatic scenery. It kicks up again towards the end.
This is a common route home for me, one of the tougher alternatives but worth it for the views.

This is a short climb, but is still a test if youve got a few miles in your legs. The first part to the crossroads in the village is the steepest. Great views across the valley from the top.
