It is not what I would call a ''tough'' climb but it does get you out the saddle on a few sections. Road surface is good all the way up. The approach past the golf course is a short stiff climb up to the main ascent. If you''re riding towards Lennoxtown, watch the last corner as you approach the golf course it is quite tight at speed and the camber is flat. Nice views down into the valley on a clear day.
The top of the hill is fairly flat for about a mile and the road surface is quite poor in places so take care here. The descent down towards the B818 is fast but the road surface is potholed with loose gravel in some sections so look well ahead and pick your line.
All in all a good ride.

For comparison the nearby Tak Ma Doon road from Kilsyth is MUCH harder despite being listed as the 40th hardest climb in the UK on this website whereas this is listed as the 8th. The road from Bannockburn past the north side of North Third Reservoir and on to Carron Valley is also much harder.
The low rating is because this is incorrectly listed as much more difficult and longer than it actually is, not because it isn''t a nice ride, which it is.
