I cycled around Ireland for more than 1000 miles back in 1996. I did the Pass, not knowing it was a pass before I did it! I had a tent, books, camping gear etc on the back. I had come down from Nenagh (100 miles) the day before, and slept at the side of a church. The pass was the only place I had to stop to get my breath in the 1000 miles. I only stopped the once for about 5 mins, not bad! Couldn´t do it now though.

I did the Conor Pass with full panniers and after a night of moderate drinking. I had to stop every hundred meters or so, but it was worth it to catch my breath while taking the the beautiful view of Dingle. Stopped at the top for a cigarette and a swig of whiskey from my flask. The Germans I saw there must have thought I was insane, but I needed the booze just to sooth my legs. Fast ascent on the other side to sunny Tralee (I think...). Do it without panniers!!! Lovely Ireland, thanks for a rainy, but beautiful trip.

I live at the bottom of this climb,(6.5Km from summit) Dingle side. When short of time, and wind not full north I do it once or twice a week. I ride a mountain-bike,for comfort, and start on a paralell road, half dirt, which has a nice steep stretch, and join the main road about 2Kms up.
