I cycled over this col in 1951 with 2 other keen cyclists from uk. I was 16 yrs old then and have a photo to remind me of the snow by the roadside. In spite of this it was very hot cycling in shorts and t-shirt! We went on to Turin before returning home.

Definitely the easiest way to climb to 2000 meters. last 8 kms are somewhat more difficult, but not serious. However: when your destination is Galibier, you should hold your horses on this climb
