We tackled this as part of the Etape du Legende route in 2007 - the road starts to climb through Andlau (where we stocked up on rations) and into the woods of the Hohwald. This climb goes up to the Col de Kreuzweg (766m - 3rd Cat, at 55Km) and claims to be 18 Km at 3.3%, but the last few Kms are about 7% and very exposed when hot, as it was when we tackled it. The surface and on the descent to Breitenbach looks great, but with the tar melting and with a feature of roads in this area of having fine small smooth pale gravel, the back end of the bike can slide out of corners a bit. Together with some loose recent resurfacing, this descent is nice but keep your wits about you.
