Climbing from the tiny hamlet of Olette, this is a moderately difficult stretch. The difficulty factors include the length (23kms), a medium gradient (particularly in the middle) and it is also on a main road (not too busy though). The real climbing actually stops a few kms earlier than the official signpost at the small village of mont-louis, where there is a quiet restaurant/cafe for refreshments.
